A message from NLNA CEO COVID-19 UPDATE

Dear Members,

We are open so let us make the most of the five-day lockdown and really connect with our communities.

Some key points:
1.QR Code check-ins- please ensure you have several check-in points at your shop
2. Mandatory Face masks-keep yourselves and the community safe
3.Hand sanitiser and washing of the hands -constantly.
4.Social Distancing -please keep the customers 1.5m apart as per State Government regulations
5.Tatts Kiosks that are closed -State & Federal assistance is on the way -more to come.
6.Distribution- business as usual using all the above points 1-4.
7.Community – let us keep positive for the community whether it be retail or distribution – right now the community needs us, in some instances we are one of only a few connections for them in the next 5 days.

State Government Victoria

A big thanks to the State Government of Victoria that has listened to VANA that newsagents are an essential service and the very fabric of our communities. Our argument all along has been no one can be deprived of media and essential items. To Minister Melissa Horne (Liquor and Gaming) MP and Minister Jaala Pulford (Small Business) the Small Business Commissioner Mark Schram and Joel Williams Executive Director, Liquor and Gaming these people have been so incredibly supportive to our industry, in the toughest of tough times in no less than 5 lockdowns in Victoria.

Take care and stay safe,

You are not alone at VANA & NLNA.

Kind regards,

Brendan Tohill | Chief Executive Officer

Further easing of restrictions update – commencing 25 June 2021

Dear Members,

Following the Acting Premier’s announcement regarding the further easing of restrictions from Friday 25 June 2021, please find a summary of the relevant restrictions below, noting that the Restricted Activity Directions which will potentially contain greater detail, won’t be released until Friday. Although there are still restrictions in place, it is good news and I hope this will enable more staff to return to work and help businesses pick up again.

Lotteries

Metro Melbourne

  • Density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm applies.

Regional Victoria

  • The density quotient of 1 person per 2 sqm applies when using a COVID Check-in Marshal, otherwise, density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm applies
  • Venues can have up to 25 patrons before the density quotient applies
  • No COVID Check-in Marshal required.

A reminder that masks must still be worn indoors and patron (and staff) check-in using the Victorian Government QR code service/kiosk service is mandatory in businesses across the state and must be enforced by staff/COVID Marshals upon entry. It is also recommended that venue operators and businesses take the time to review their COVIDSafe Plans on a regular basis, to ensure recent changes in requirements are reflected.

QR CODES ARE MANDATORY

QR CODES ARE MANDATORY

Dear Members,

I know this is challenging with QR codes especially with Tatts and busy times.

These are not normal times.

Please see the below image from Gerard Attwood (VANA Director) at his Sorrento Store.

If you have the QR Code on your front window and front counter that would be practical.

If you have regulars that are elderly they can write in an exercise book.

If you have regulars where you have contact details on file that will suffice.

Just a reiteration of the new settings.

QR Codes – New requirements
QR code record-keeping requirements will now be mandatory in retail settings, like supermarkets and newsagencies, and retail.

Retailers must use the Service Victoria QR Code Service.

Yours sincerely,
