The Commission Review From The Lottery Corporation

Dear Members,

23rd February 2023

Re: Today’s email at 9 am from The Lottery Corporation about the Commission Review

ALERT: 2% INCREASE to our Members

A 2% INCREASE to our members is so welcomed and the National Lotteries & Newsagents Association (NLNA) prides itself on having a strong, robust but healthy relationship with The Lottery Corporation (TLC) across all levels of management around Australia.

We unashamedly support the pillar as the key driver of foot traffic in our industry.

NLNA celebrates three years today and a key supporter of the NLNA has been The Lottery Corporation (previously Tabcorp) since day one.

Positivity and optimism have been the cornerstone of the NLNA’s success.

It’s not where we have been as an industry, but it’s where we are going!

“We are here to improve your income, reduce costs and increase foot traffic and work with the industry.

I would personally like to thank Brian Laws, General Manager of The Lottery Corporation and Adrian Eaton National Engagement Manager of The Lottery Corporation, whom I have worked very closely with and will continue to do so. To Managing Director and Chief Executive, Sue van der Merwe, and Chief Channel Officer, Antony Moore – thank you for your support through this very detailed and thorough process.

Summary

  1. A commission rate increase from 10.3% to 12.3% of subs- for all lottery products, excl. Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot, Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot, Instant Scratch-Its, Coin Toss & Keno.
  2. An increase in Powerball subscription by 10 cents from $1.10 to $1.20 per game (plus agent commission at the new rate of 12.3%)
  3. A sign-up bonus rate increase from 1% to 3%.
  4. A digital commission rate increase from 2% to 4% for GREEN, and 1% to 2% for amber.

We as an Association, understand and appreciate the cost of living at the moment in Australia is prohibitive and the commission increase today is good news.

Yours sincerely,

Brendan Tohill | Chief Executive Officer

VALE VANA LEGEND JOHN ATTWOOD

Dear Members,

It is with a very heavy heart we share the sad news of the passing of VANA’s first-ever Legend, John Attwood.

John was inducted as a VANA legend in 2012 as an incredibly successful newsagent always ahead of his time & constantly innovating.

John always had a strong voice advocating for the rights of newsagents within the industry, serving on the VANA Board for over 10 years.

The VANA legend had over five decades of involvement in the industry and was then carried on by his sons Gerard Attwood at Sorrento Newsagency (current VANA Director); Colin at Murrumbeena for 30 years and Greg at Ashburton Newsagency for 21 years.

John’s legacy is profound as a powerful and dominant newsagent that led our industry.

From the VANA staff, VANA members & Directors our thoughts are with John’s entire family, including his 9 children, 21 grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren & 1 great, great grandchild!

Regards,

Yours sincerely,

PRESS RELEASE

RELEASE DATE:
9 February 2023

NEWSBAR INSTANT WIN PROMOTION
$5,000 DREAM HOLIDAY WINNER ANNOUNCED!

The National Lotteries and Newsagents Association (NLNA) is thrilled to announce the major prize winner of the NEWSBAR Instant Win Promotion. Our very deserved winner, Bernie McGuane of St Albans Park in Geelong has won a $5,000 dream holiday!

NEWSBAR is a 100g milk chocolate bar made in Australia by The Ministry of Chocolate, exclusively for NLNA to supply to newsagents and lottery kiosks across Australia.

NEWSBAR was developed so our industry has an EXCLUSIVE product to sell. Through extensive media support and the support of this INSTANT WIN promotion, NEWSBAR has driven interest and foot traffic into newsagencies across Australia.

Bernie and her family were won over by NEWSBAR from the very first bite. Bernie said her mum is a chocoholic so after trying NEWSBAR for the first time, it became a weekly treat for herself and her mum because the chocolate was so nice. Bernie would pop into Munro’s on Garden in East Geelong and be sure to pick up a NEWSBAR once or twice a week with her newspaper purchase.

Fittingly, Bernie celebrated her win with her mum and sister Denise in the Munro’s on Garden café, and enjoyed some delicious scones and cup of coffee.

Bernie is still deciding where her perfect dream holiday will take her, so we wish her all the very best and can’t wait to see photos!

NEWSBAR bar is currently available for purchase at participating newsagents and lottery kiosks across Australia. The second season of NEWSBAR’s hugely successful Instant Win promotion starts in April 2023.

PRESS RELEASE END.
